That is the whole idea, and it is the opposite of distressing: nothing here has been beaten, sanded through or stained to look old. The character was in the timber before anyone touched it.
Styling follows the same rule. A japandi media wall works by subtraction - one object on the console, or none, and the screen turned off so the wall reads as wood and plaster rather than a black rectangle. Keep the surface clear enough that the edge of the top is visible along its whole length, because that edge is the piece. 🌿 Why Natural Solid Wood?
Every one of these depends on a board being allowed to stay itself. A natural front edge is the outside of the tree; a knot is where a branch was; the swirl across a drawer face is the grain doing what it did in the trunk. None of it can be reproduced on a printed surface, because a print is one photograph repeated, and the repeat is exactly what this style is trying to avoid - two identical knots on the same console give the whole thing away.
There is a durability argument too, and it matters more here than usual. Leaving the natural edge means the most exposed part of the console is solid timber rather than a wrapped corner, which is where veneered furniture fails first. Knots and figure hide the marks of ordinary life far better than a flat, even surface. And because the character is in the material rather than applied to it, sanding the top back and re-oiling it years from now brings the same piece back rather than removing a finish that cannot be replaced.

Distressing adds fake age with sanding, denting and stain. Wabi sabi leaves what was already there: a natural edge, knots, mineral streaks and the board's own line.
